We're hiringProduction
Production Assistant
- $16 to $19 per hour
- First shift
- Second shift
- Fort Worth, Texas
About the role
We blend, bottle, and can distilled spirits and ready-to-drink cocktails for the biggest beverage-alcohol brands in the world, names you'd recognize from any back bar. Four lines run under one roof, two bottling and two canning, and one Shift Manager runs the floor on each shift.
That manager's job is to watch all four lines at once. What actually happens is that a line needs a pallet of cans, or a case of tape, or a part from the maintenance shop, and the manager walks off the floor to go get it. Sometimes they pull an operator off a line instead, which stops the line. Either way the shift loses. We are hiring two people, one on each shift, so that quits happening. You get the thing. The manager stays where they can see.
No experience required, and no diploma required. If the last place you were was high school, trade school, or college, that is fine.
- Keep your Shift Manager on the floor. Most of your day is getting what the lines need and bringing it to them: cans, caps, labels, case tape, gloves, a part from the maintenance shop, the QC tech when a sample needs pulling.
- Get materials there before anybody asks. You'll learn what each line is running and what is coming up next, so the next set of materials is staged before the current one runs out.
- Move finished product off the lines. Take cases off as they come, palletize them the way the pack-out procedure says, wrap them, stage them for the forklift driver.
- Turn the lines around between products. We are a co-packer, so what is running changes constantly: a bottled whiskey this week, a canned cocktail the next, every so often something nobody has made before.
- Tell somebody what you saw. You will walk past all four lines more than anybody else in the building. Crooked labels, a leak under a machine, a pallet stacked badly, somebody working without their safety glasses.
- Learn the building. You'll be shown how the machines work and what every position on a line does. The goal we have for this seat: in about a year, you can run a line position yourself.
What it takes
- At least 18 years old.
- You get here on time, every day. Reliable transportation, and a real plan for the morning it rains or the car won't start. This is the one thing we can't teach you.
- On your feet, walking and carrying, for a full shift. Regular lifting up to 50 pounds.
- You ask when you don't know. This job breaks when somebody guesses instead.
- You can follow a written procedure and leave a note the next shift can read.
Helps, but not required: any job or team where you had to be somewhere on time · warehouse, kitchen, retail stockroom, or farm work · forklift or pallet-jack time · Spanish · a driver's license.
This is the wrong job if you want to know at the start of the shift exactly what you'll be doing all day, or if you'd rather be told twice. The list changes by the hour, sometimes because a line went down.
The deal
$16 to $19 per hour depending on experience, plus opportunities for shift differentials, overtime, and discretionary performance bonuses.
